Ok, at my age I should not be having annual ear infections. But I do, and after a couple of times here are my #healthtips.
The first time I had ear infection I was 34! never ever in my life I've had that. My sister used to be the one of infections. I was more quarterly-colds type of child. But since they are coming late, here are a few things you should consider when having an ear infection
1. You will have fever, and with that body-ache.
2. Your ear will hurt, terribly! The first night is the worst, forget about sleeping.
3. Medications work!
I'm busy all the time, I consider myself a workaholic, and I love it! So being sick is not something I want, because I would not take "sick days". Consequently I need something that works, too many things to do, and too little time to not sleep well. Consider this BEFORE the infection:
1. Do not use cotton swabs! Please don't. I don't like to feel the water in my ear after a shower, and so I over use them. Until it's too late to stop using them.
2. Ear wax is natural, so leave it there. I particularly care about having what my body has in my body - it's there for a reason.
3. Do not overuse small headphones. They accumulate germs, and you put on and on in your ear, cleaning the natural wax, and intriducing germs.
So what worked for me this past two times:
1. Drink lots of water. You have fever, so you dehydrate quickly!
2. Don't touch your ear. Well, it hurts so much you can't, but just in case you're tempted to clear that.
3. Use drop antibiotics. If you're like me, who don't like medications, this is the best option.
4. Use hot pads. You can boil some water, and use a small towel, squeeze the hot water, and while the towel is warm place it in your ear. That is a miracle! You won't get cured, but you'll be able to sleep!!
5. Put your head in hot water. I can explain this. Boil some of your favorite tea, mine was chamomile. Put it in a bowl, get a towel and place your face smelling the hot water, cover your head. It'll feel very hot, but it actually works! (disclosure - be careful with burning! if you have sensitive skin, wait until the water cools down a little). In the entire process I only took two iburpofen pills.
You'll feel better in one day. The second day will be recovering. And the third day will be complete healing. I was working the second day, so it worked for me, and I hope it works for you too!

My bowl was clear, so you can see me there doing the hot water smell. Disclosure: This is what I did, but consult with your doctor for any healthcare questions. |
